Hey all,

This is something else that I've been working on recently, a complete rebuild of the TIE fighter that I originally posted here almost exactly ten years ago, just after the great crash of '06 :) :

Better geo, more accurate, etc. Panel lines will be displacement maps (cue the boos! :) ), more to come!

    It's looking fantastic so far. Who cares if you use displacement maps? Only the results matter, and your work is always terrific. People who have something against bump maps can get over it. When they build theirs, they can model everything. ;)

    @evil_genius_180: thank you! Yeah, I think that it'll work out in the end. :)
    @fractalsponge: lol agreed :)
    @scifieric: thank you! This one is set up MUCH better than the last one for proper UVs, etc., I'm looking forward to texturing.
    @TALON_UK: thanks, it's a lot of fun!
    @ChrisGVX: thank you! It's always fun to revisit something, I'm having lots of "What was I thinking when I made this garbage??!!" moments. :)

    Thanks, working on the hat now, I should have something to show shortly.

    I think that the DOF is just the low resolution of the BG HDRI, I don't think that I had DOF turned on in this one. :)

    Bahahaha! Real Men model everything.

    Actually, I'm not yet convinced that Ansel knows how to texture. I figure his insane modelling skills are simply an attempt to hide the fact that he can't figure out how to work Photoshop. :D

    Looking great so far! Really looking forward to seeing this one come together. :cool:

    If that's the case, he compensates quite magnificently. ;)

    I really like the details. How will/do you texture everything with that much detail?

    Thanks all!

    With hours and hours of uv'ing. :) On the upside there's a fair amount of detail that is symmetrical across the ship so I can copy the uvs, and there is essentially only one "wing star" copied 4 times, with minor accommodations for the wing struts.

    Do you unwrap your mesh or paint directly onto the model?
  • stonkystonky350 Posts: 489Member
    UV it first, then 3D paint.

    Nice job on the itty bits.

    Thank you! The wings are where I'll really have to earn my tiny bits street cred. :)
