The Corellian Hawk

Been working on this for a little while (Episode VII bug has got me too).

It's a Corellian YT-series ship that's sort of a Falcon/Outrider hybrid. 32m long, 38m wide, it's somewhat larger than the Falcon or the Outrider.

Decided to call it the Corellian Hawk.

Looking good so far. I love the Outrider, it's interesting that you're blending it with the Falcon. :)

    What's the Outrider? Great start.

    I see the influence: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/YT-2400_light_freighter

But I would have assumed that the "next one up" in the series would retain the mandibles from the Falcon/YT-1300.

You might assume that but I'm the designer, so it doesn't have mandibles...

The smooth front looks great. The mandibles would ruin the aesthetics of the design, in my opinion. They work on the Falcon design, but that doesn't mean every ship inspired by the Falcon should have them.

Your father called the future - "the undiscovered country". People can be very frightened of change.

I was actually considering kitbashing this design into the Falcon configuration after it's finished. Integrating mandibles into the rounded saucer edge will be an interesting design challenge. Obviously it would lose the starboard side wing section....

Yeah, I think that would be necessary to make it look good. Like you said, it would be a design challenge to incorporate them.

Man, even though you're not building the Outrider exactly, this is putting me in the mood for Shadows of the Empire. I may have to dig out my Nintendo 64 and play the game. ;)

I really like your panneling and the cockpit windows. Get the impression that the owner of that ship would be the last one standing in a bar fight!

It's hard to say, but it looks like they'd block the movement of some of the flap things (assuming those are supposed to move, as it looks like they could.)
  • Wishbone_AshWishbone_Ash63 Posts: 0Member
Possibly... but I'm just making it resemble the Falcon's engine arrangement which is similar and also has bits that appear to hinder movement of other bits. Who knows the exact way in which this is all supposed to work...

Very good so far... I like it.

They act as movement constraints for the engine thrust nozzles. In Haines they say they are "Fuel drive pressure stabilizer"

Yeah, that was probably the kitbashing at work more than worrying about making it functional. "Put that there... yeah, that looks good."

I'm loving those louvers over the engine. Reminds me of the vectored thrust nozzles on the F-22 Raptor.
