Space simulator question

Out of the blue question. Does anyone one know if there is a space simulator that can load ships and other 3d objects you built yourself? I think for CG artists who know nothing about simulation and game creation, it would be awesome to have a pre-built game engine to throw a low poly version of your ship into and fly it around, and maybe blow stuff up. What do you think?
