Help to make the secondary Hull on 3D max.

I am planning to work on my first starship on 3dmax and my project is making my fav ship the sovereign class aka Enterprise E. I have been going through the ships plans and most of it is easy enough to make except the secondary hull or stardrive which I can't figure out in 3d max.

So I am asking how ya guys make those secondary hulls. If ya can send me some pics to show how its been done that will be great.
