Trying to get back into some modeling. Downloaded the lightwave 3d plugins by Dpont. Always liked how programs like renderman create detail on the fly with micropolygon displacement. There is new volume instance plugin that does this. Am going to try some experiments with texturing SF objects to achieve some new realism effects. Build a subdivision test spaceship. There are no greeblies or details on the original mesh.

I haven't played with (http://dpont.pagesperso-orange.fr/plugins/DP_MicroDisp.html) micropolys myself, but from what you've shown I assume it take a bump map and produces polygon-like displacements?
