2DMy kitbashed 2D ships

I love to tinker with 2D starship "tool kits" in Paint.Net. I've gotten pretty good at it too. Most of my parts come from the major parts source for 2D kitbashing, Vance. I've also done a fair amount of "partbashing" using Vance (and others') parts. Plus I've tried my hand at a few basically "ground up" parts of my own, with just detailing from other parts.

Here's a sample to get things going:

I like the first three a lot, the others are just OK to me. I used to do this sort of stuff before I started doing 3D CGI. ;)

Heres another version of Resolute with added detailing

That's pretty cool. I like the MK1 a little better, but that's just me. ;)

This is very annoying. I was futzing with parts and made a TOS "mini-saucer". So I had to build something with it. Darn thing came out "cute"...starships should not be"cute"...

    Anyways, here's "Connie's Little Sister"

Cool. It's a mini Connie. :D I like the Searcher too.

Cool! I like these. I used to do a lot of kitbashing before. Of course, I still can't draw anything. I used to do my kitbashing by making photocopies and literally cutting and pasting stuff together that way!

I use Paint.Net, a free/shareware update of Paint and do it digitally. :)

Before I taught myself CGI, I used to use that ship kit thing and just do side views in Windows Paint. (on a new computer running Windows 98, if you're looking for a time frame here) Man, that crap was awful but I thought it was the coolest thing.

There are people who are pants at Paint, but I've seen a very few people from time to time that can make that program do barrel rolls.

It was all I had with my first computer. ;) I rarely use it anymore, except to draw Aztec for my 3D ships. Though, there are also other programs for other desktops that are pretty much the same. It's extremely basic, too much so for my taste. If I actually want to draw something, I use Inkscape.

A "commission" of sorts, at the request of a TrekBBS member, the mercenary cruiser Pisces, built from scavenged and bartered out of date and surplus parts

This is one of the ones I spent some time on "fancy-ing up".

Great designs, the Valiant in particular looks very good, it's a perfect evolution of the old DY series into the TOS era.

^Thanks! That was indeed my intention with the Valiant. Though if you will note the date on the image, it's not TOS era. In fact it's not even ENT-era. It was launched in the 21st century, not long after First Contact.

Nice take on the Valiant. :D

don't know if this is the place to put it but i find all federation ships in star trek look virtually the same, a dish some engines in tubes above/below/to the sides. i prefer the klingon ones and the scimitar from star trek nemesis. your designs do look quite nice though.

Ok...playing with DrX's new primary, here's the infamous Star Empire from the equally infamous novel "Dreadnought"

Dreadnought! is a great book. (the very first Star Trek book I ever read) I'm loving the Star Empire. It's a tad different than other schematics I've seen, but different is good. :)

It's an interesting book to a point. It also has one of the most infamous Mary Sue's in professional literature.
