Hi,

Sorry for the OT, but I don't get many answers in another forum. I think there is more peoples here with knowledge with 3dsmax. Here are my problems:

I am asking myself a bunch of questions now, because I can see some problems with the model.

I model low poly but I check Use Nurbs (With 2-3 iterations) to get my final result. I wonder now if I shouldn't use MSmooth instead.
Model with UseNurbs

Model Low poly

I also use the Mirror option for everything. But there is a rendering problem between the two of them. The shadow seems a problem there, but also the line
that joins both of them sometimes shows up. How do you get around this ?

It looks like you're using the mirror tool from the toolbar to create the symmetry for the other half of the car. This gives you two separate meshes that aren't joined, and that's why you get the seam when you smooth it. Instead, you should use the Symmetry modifier from the modifier list, which will give you one mesh, while still allowing you to only model one side.
And for the smoothing, go with the Turbosmooth/Meshsmooth modifier to smooth out your mesh, instead of using the version in the graphite modeling tools.
The symmetry modifier should be applied before the smooth, otherwise you'll still end up with a bit of a seam problem.

I don't know what level you're at, so sorry if any of that is patronizing. Better to give too much info than not enough. :)

BVD, you are right. I was using the tool, not the modifier. I didn't even know there was a modifier for that. Also didn't use the turbosmooth modifier... Strange how all the best options in 3dsmax, seems to be in the modifier list instead of the IU interface.

It's like they put all the half crappy options in the UI and hide the working one. Thanks a bunch. Gonna try it and post at least one follow up to show you how it went.

I am not a complete newbie, but I did all my modelling in Cinema4d. So I have a lot to learn about 3dsmax.
