@StarCruiser I get a kick out of scifi sails that measure in meters instead of kilometers.

@evil_genius_180 I'm hoping Costco has a sale soon, so I can upgrade my computer.

I took a break from these things, and it was going to be a longer break, but things were slow at work today. I started reworking another old design.

I like that design. Also, I'm a big fan of the shiny white finish.

Thanks. That material is AutoCAD's bright white porcelain. It's one of my favorites basic materials.

    Advanced looking

The stellar sail reminds me of a scorched Vostok—which I think inspired Sontarans as Sputnik III gave us Daleks.

I guess next up is figuring out what kind of windows she needs.

I really like how you broke up the white by coloring those sections in gray.

Thanks. It reminds me of a few things; a vest on a walmart greeter, a panda, and a saddle shoe.

I think this one is done. Even though I should know better, I started with the old file and it's starting to get flaky.

The original was much more Flash Gordon-ish, and was a bronze color. I thought I'd see how it looked.

You know I like that white paint job, but the bronze color takes it to a whole new level. Though, that may be my inner Flash Gordon fanboy talking. ;)

Another old ship (named 'Finial') getting reworked. This time I'm experimenting with hull materials.

Not only do I like the design, but I like the mix of colors that you have for your ship and glowy bits.

Thank you. That's what I'm in this for: the design and the glowy bits.
I got a new computer. So renders are much faster compared to what the five year old computer did.

Unfortunately, it runs Windows11, which has something called Webview2. When AutoCAD 2024 runs, webview2 opens instance after instance after instance, until about 13 instances are running.

That seems to be too many instances, so this brand new computer says "F*ck that, let's do something else".

Fortunately, AutoCAD 2022 doesn't make use that webview nonsense.

    So, there's this:

Looking great. Congrats on the new computer. Hopefully AutoCAD will release an update to fix that nonsense.
  • rojrenrojren2298 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,970Member
Thanks. I'm not holding my breath on anything ever getting fixed in AutoCAD. There are bugs that are years and years old that they haven't even admitted exist, let alone tried to fix.

    More glowy bits:

Makes you hate software companies, doesn't it?

I really like that gold area with the lights behind it. The lights really make it pop.

Autodesk used to be a half-way decent company until the programmers were made subservient to the bean counters.

    Anyway. Done.

Dude, that looks fantastic. It's one of my favorite designs that you've done. Between the design and the colors, everything works for me. :)

I've seen similar complaints about Autodesk from Max users over the years. They're one of those companies who knows that professionals use their software, so they probably don't worry about fixing things as much as finding ways to milk money out of people, especially professional artists.

Having worked with an ANCIENT version of AutoCAD (1.86 something, something...) I can attest to them having -been- a decent company...in the past.

I'm going back to the 'Dust Bunny' from a few months back, and trying a different angle.

Very nice. I like the interconnecting circles, particularly due to the cool shadow patterns they create.

I went back and re-built parts. Now it looks like a tire is stuck in the middle of it. I hope to fix that shortly.

It would also be one heck of a nacelle cap.
  • rojrenrojren2298 Louisville, Kentucky USAPosts: 1,970Member
Yeah... Now that I think about it, I seem to remember someone having something similarish - and I think it was animated.

Anyway, rebuilt things. And screwed them up. Rebuilt that, and forgot what I was doing and screwed that up. Rebuilt that and changed my mind about how I wanted to do it after it was fairly far along. Rebuilt that, and then added window bays.

("...That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up....")

That red hexagonal treatment would be a nice nacelle cap…with this at the aft of a nacelle:

That link wants me to log in.
I'd rather not get into Star Trek ships. I've done a few over the years, with most results being pretty 'meh'. And I think Star Trek is more than adequately represented around here... and most other places.

    I think I'm at a stopping point.

Looks great. I really like both the design and the materials.

You should definitely keep doing your own designs. You obviously have a great imagination to come up with so many different designs. That's what has kept me interested in this thread all these years, is seeing what you'll come up with next. :D If I had half the imagination and talent for original design that you do, I'd abandon Star Trek fan art and do my own thing too. But, every time I try, it doesn't go very far.
