Well, Over at the SCN.....I have had a long running thread called 'Rick's New Ship Depsitory'. Figured it was time to create the thread here and keep all my ship designs within the one thread.

With the Science Vessel and Shuttle nearing completion and with work going on on my TOS style connie.....I figured it was time to revisit and old favorite from the annals of the SCN.

Namely the 'ADULT ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX'

How this concept came about is a funny story......One of the design competitions over at SCN was to design the interior of a Federation ship or Starbase.....cold do the entire ship, base, or just a room. I was one of the judges at the time......and just for the heck of it, I decided to just 'bust trek canon wide open'. One of the 'ideals' of StarTrek has been the 'betterment of oneself. What better way to just wreck that concept completely than by designing a combination casino, dancehall, and sex club.

I had originally done it tongue-in-cheek....with no intention to enter the competition even though it was set up in such a way as so judges could enter.....but after some heaving convincing....I went ahead and submitted the idea.....and won the CMP.

I had stripper stages, dancefloors, slot machines and gaming tables, a dining establishment, full on bathrooms, holodecks and holosuites ( one was running a tropical beach scene with a jacuzzi style hot tub, a daybed, and a couple bikini clad green skin orion women)

I even had an area where one could explore various fetishes as well as spend some time with people who are engaged in the 'World's oldest Profession'

So, I am going to attempt to re-do the entire concept.....and post pictures of progress......keeping in mind, that I am not putting any limits on just how outrageous I can take this ( and still keep within the Terms of Service of the SFM )

Sounds interesting. Make sure you include a couple of Ferringi getting lobe massages. ;)

What, by the bye, is SCN?

Well, the first image in the thread is the ship that houses the Complex......Because I am going to focus on the facility itself......I'm not going to do any detailing on the ship......primarily it is for reference to show where on the ship the complex is at and to show how the general room shape fits the ship.

The ship is an old unfinished WIP that I started a while back........uploaded it to the Sketchup Warehouse......in hopes that someone would download it and go ahead and put their own finishing touches to it.

So, for this purpose, it represents what I think that Starfleet would come up with for a pure luxury liner.....a cruise ship if you will.

As always comments are welcomed......and if any of you sketchup artists want to take this ship and run with it.......please feel free to download it and go for it.

Ok....I did a bit of hunting and found the original images and write-up as the concept related to the competition. As I said, It was for a Federation Interior design competition and this was what I submitted.

I have this post divided up into two segments: First segment is the background and Key to 42 images stored in a photobucket folder.
Second segment is the link to the photobucket folder.

Layout, Background information, and Illustration Key
    To the Casino-Multi-sensory entertainment complex.

This Casino is a primary feature in the Majestic Class Star-yacht. The star-yacht itself is a specialized Federation ship design whose sole purpose is to provide the ultimate in luxury travel to VIPs, Ambassadors, Planetary Representatives, and other persons of higher rank and station. It was decided by the leaders of the ASDB that such a ship was needed as there were those individuals who felt that VIPs and other persons could better fulfill their duties in an atmosphere of informal comfort and extreme luxury.

The Star-yacht itself is minimally armed, but outfitted with the most advanced shielding and the most efficient warp engine system available. This lets the ship travel at the highest levels of warp speed. The advantage with this being that the ship can escape a hostile situation with minimal damage and harm to it's passengers.

Upon entering the Casino - The first thing that you will see and visit is the admissions booth. This is to verify that you are of legal age and sufficient mentality to be in such a place. This is necessary as there are features in this complex that are not seen in an ordinary gambling establishment. One of these features being an area where ladies and gentlemen engaged in the career of “fantasy fulfillment” ply their trade. There is also a room within this area for those guest who like to indulge in various fetishes.
There are also areas for alcohol consumption and a holodeck specially programmed to be able to create most any scenario without the need for proper behavior protocols.

There are of course various areas within the complex that feature gambling games, non-gambling games, conversation and fine dining areas. There is a large dance floor with a bandstand for live performances by the popular entertainers of the day.

I think I ran across this set once before. I was wondering what that was used for, now I know. Thank's for clarifying a strangething I ran into several years ago.
That said, I like it mostly.

Well, the old laptop crashed and burned......So......I lost all previous work. Actually, Once I get to a proper repair shop, I think I can pull all the data off the old hard drive. What I think happened is that the internal power supply messed up.

In the meantime, downloading google 8 and kerky from scratch..........so begins some re-draws.

So, work begins anew on my Connie style ship........and the casino re-do........and the Tos style Cheyenne.

Also, means complete re-do's on the science vessel and the accompaning shuttle.

Oh dear me. Sorry to hear that. :(

Okay......After what seems like FOREVER, I am getting a start back designing. I still am hampered by PC problems. Namely, I went to Aaron's and picked out a N-I-I-I-C-E laptop.....and two friggin days later, one of the keys pops off the keyboard. So, back to Aarons......where it goes into he shop and I am given a "Loaner". This was well over a month ago.

Anywy......back to the subject at hand. I had begun working on my rendition of a TOS style Cheyenne. So, Here is the finished shape. Have to do al the detailing, but here is the clay style model.

For this early stage of development, I did not bother to render in Kerkythea.

Indeed a TOS Cheyenne/Constellation (sorry, for me the Constellation is just the predecessor to the Cheyenne). Though I think the saucer is a bit too big in proportion to the rest.

Okay - here are two orthographic shots........Opinions needed.......placement of deflector dish......rather than placing it Saladin style......and losing the sensor dome.......I decided to place it on the pylons between the nacelles

Do you like the placement better on the lower set or the upper set.......the dish is as large as it can be on the lower set so that it does not interfere with the sensor dome. I can go larger a dish on the upper pylon.

  • AresiusAresius359 Posts: 4,171Member
Ih "feels" right to have it on the lower pylon, likely because we're only used to see it below the saucer so far...
  • Darth ZiggyDarth Ziggy0 Posts: 0Member
How about, "slung" under the bottom pylon.

    Or, "along" the lower neck.

Or a sensor "blister" on one side (off center) of the saucer. Just the first things that popped into my "heed". Cool idea, so far.

After a long hiatus, I am finally back designing again. This WIP is based off another thread. There is a thread which has a WIP of a totally cool and delightful little ship called the Hammerstadt. In the orthos of that particular ship, the perimeter shape of the vessel was a sheer inspiration. So, I decided to take that perimeter shape and play with it. Kudos to the designer of the Hammerstadt and my gratitude for such a wonderful little ship for inspiration.

Renders are in Kerkythea......No texturing/detailing yet, but I want to take this one to completion. I am thinking about having this little ship be some kind of science/exploration type vessel.

Is this based off my ship?

No, just the perimeter edge/shape of the vessel.

That's a promising start so far. I like a lot of compact designs and this one looks pretty cool. :)

Update - the ship is going to be a carrier of sorts......multiple shuttle bays..... about 818 meters long.

That pod is looking good so far and is a good addition. :)

I don't know why I was thinking it looks small, the bridge clearly indicates otherwise. :shiner:

First of all, I don't copy or plagarize.......I asked in your thread if I could use the base shape? - It was a shape I had not seen before and it presented so many possibilities. If you want me to stop on the ship ..... If you think it is copied....Ok, Not a problem. Your ship is a great design and I look forward to seeing how it develops. Artists like Fractal, MadKoiFish, yourself, Clawhammer, Borgman, and others are inspiration.

I didn't say you copy or plagiarized. I was jut wondering. I usually don't like others "copying" my work, I prefer if people make their own designs instead of making millions of different drone variations of one design.

This is what I used.......just the base shape.......the perimeter edge. This was the inspiration. Nothing else......this is what caught my eye. This is what I saw that was unique

Opinions and advice needed - I am making this ship a carrier of sorts......I am not sure which method of entrance and egree to go with.

I have attached a picture showing my two trains of thought....look at it and tell me what you think is best. One thought is to have the shuttles and fighters enter and exit like a traditional naval carrier.....coming into the carrrier at the rear of the ship and leaving the carrier at the front of the ship. The other option is to make the upper pod the fighter/shuttle bay and to have the fighters and shuttles enter and exit at the same time. If I go with the first idea.....then the upper pod becomes the deflector dish pod, if I go with the second option, then the area below the saucer area becomes the deflector.
Also, With the first option, I am thinking of making the pod the main engineering area. My concern in that is what happens if there is a confrontation and the pod is damaged....much like the reliant's pod in ST: TWOK. Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed.

I like the first option for the flight and landing idea. As for the pod being engineering, what are the dimensions of the pod?
  • rwkingrwking189 Posts: 173Member
    The upper pod is 121 meters wide - 274 meters long- 44 meters tall - yes, it's a big pod.....but it's a big ship.

I have come up with what I hope is a plausible background story for the ship

After the return of Voyager, the Dominion war, and other conflicts within the Federation, the designers at the Advanced Starship Design Bureau were tasked by Starfleet Intelligence to come up with a ship design capable of carrying a war to the enemy. This ship had to act as a transport, a mobile base of operations, a supply vessel, a mobile command center, and be a capable battleship. Normally, Starfleet 'discouraged' building purpose warships, but the military minds prevailed and a warship concept was born.
The designer racked their collective brains for a quite a long time, various concepts were considered, tossed aside, explored, until one designer decided to take a page out of Earth's distant past. Upon researching warships of the past, the designer realized that the best choice for this new design was to go back to the concept of the aircraft carrier. After looking at several versions and eras...they settled on what was thought to be the pinnacle of aircraft carrier design, the Nimitz class.
Superior firepower, massive fighter transport, base of operations, mobile command center, able to circumnavigate the globe multiple times without re-fueling, this was what the designers at the ASDB were looking for.
So began the designing of this new class of vessel. The concept ship is over 800 meters in length, over 400 meters in width, and 145 meters in height. Able to carry a wide range of smaller shuttles, fighters, and auxillary craft. It is estimated that she will be able to carry a complement of auxiliary ships numbering well over 100 vessels. Planned breakdown is as follows A– 15 Danube class runabouts, 10 Defiant class battleships, 25 Type 14 combat shuttles, 50 Peregrine fighters, 20 XP-38 Lightning fighters.
The XP-38 Lightning is a new fighter constructed especially for this ship. Based on the old WW2 era Lightning fighter......this warp capable 2 person fighter boasts firepower equal to 1/5 the firepower of a Defiant class vessel.
When the first lead ship, The USS ABE LINCOLN comes out of dry-dock at Utopia Planitia shipyards, it is thought that this new series of ships will once again prove to be a superior warship in the Starfleet arsenal and unmatched by contemporary alien ships.

I that case, main engineering should be fine in there. It seemed to do OK in the much smaller secondary hull of the original Enterprise.

    update coming soon.
  • rwkingrwking189 Posts: 173Member
Well, In the process of adding something not normally seen in trek genre.....namely gun and missle launch turrets - for added defense.....along the lines of what a carrier would have......several inherent flaws in the basic design became apparent that tell me the ship is poorly designed for the intended function of a carrier. So I am going to change the sizing and stuff on the existing ship and give it a different duty and change some of the configuration. I am not giving up on the design because it is a great ship and I want to continue it. However, I am going to start in on a purpose built carrier ....starting with the same basic perimeter shape....and develop it from there.

Major League Question - I am working on a re-do of the Casino idea.....as first mentioned in this thread. Using a combination of Sketchup and Kerkythea - adding lighting and the like to realy up the artistry level. Here's my question - The premise of this is a super-luxury type ship with this casino/entertainment complex as a major part of it. - I am going to post several images....Here's my question....How would you suggest I 'make it more 'trek-ish' and less present day......while still keeping a feel of rich woods, exotic metals, and luxury
