I'll definitely give the logo design a crack (I love doing logos and icons). Uni-Cor sounds very sci-fi though ^_^

The city on top is an interesting idea, but it strikes me that the most prestigious places to live and work might be those which are the safest, not those which are the most exposed.

Tell that to people who insist on building on the sides of mountains or on the beach or on an active fault line or volcano....

or rich people building on top of sea cliffs and just behind beaches, sea level rise and erosion are going to give them a nasty shock.

Wow! Your original universe is fantastic. I've only been able to skim the thread, but I will definitely give thorough look when I have more time. You have some solid designs.

Thank you very much, enjoy your tour. There are more over here based on designs created by BlueNeumann

BlueNeumann's Hospital ship got me thinking again about a large cargo vessel I have been rolling around in my head for many years... This one reminds me of a huge Jellyfish. It will have large detachable cargo holds along it's central "spine."

Huh. I'd've flipped the exhaust nozzles around, so that the hot gasses didn't pass right by potentially vulnerable cargo containers as they were expelled.

I get what he's trying to do. A good compromise would be to angle the nozzles outboard 10 or 15 degrees. Also, we still don't know how big the cargo modules are, or exactly where they will be placed.

there are two aspects to consider when designing a "pull me" rocket as opposed to a "push me"(the usual) design. the first is that in general tensile structures as used in the "pull me" design where the "push me" uses compressive structures, tensile structures are usually lighter(think of hanging someone off a narrow cable versus holding them up on a piece of scaffolding). the second is that as maxxrush mentions you must angle the engines out a bit,the exact amount depending on the width that the engine plumes reach as they expand. this angling will cause a loss of thrust. for 10 to 15 degrees the thrust you lose is 1.5% to 3.5% of what you would get by having the engines point straight backwards (you still have atleast 96.5% of that thrust going into propulsion). this loss of thrust will have negative effects on your acceleration and delta V however the use of a tensile structure will reduce the ship's dry mass as compared with a compressive structure. as long as using a tensile structure gives you more than a 3.5% mass drop then it is in the interests of performance and efficiency to use outward angled engines and a tensile structure rather than straight backward engines and a compressive structure. if your plumes are wider you will need to angle the engines further out to prevent their plumes incinerating your cargo, the thrust (as a percentage of what you would get with straight backward engines) is given by 100*cos(angle from rearward, straight back being zero degrees).

A little bit of Star Wars, a little bit of Alien, makes for a purdy ship.

    Thanks Cavebear!

Here is a test render of some progress on the Scavenger ship bridge of Bluenuemann's. Yay! I have a decent graphics card again! I can use Octane Render again!!!!

    "I call window seat!"
    "You wish, Rian!"

It looks dang cool... especially because it actually looks like it's from a modern day ship at sea.

Nice interiors, particularly like the Herc bridge, very Nostromo from Alien, in the consoles and details rather than overall layout.
