I've put together a step-by-step guide on how to turn a model into a texture map, edit it, and then get it back onto the model.

This was new to me, and thought I'd share it with other newbies.

The link goes back to my website, so there's no room taken up here.

Very useful! I've been using very inefficient methods to make textures for low-poly game models, this should help greatly.

    Hey Noble...

Welcome and thanks for the kind words about the tutorial.

Yeah, I have always sorta floundered when it came to properly or efficiently doing texture maps. I sat down with a mate, bought him some beer, and he managed to get it thru my head.

I'll occassionally put together more tutes as I figure out how to do more stuff.

    Cheers!

    hi sandmanNinja

    Thanks for sharing

    btw

On your tut you wrote "I don’t know why, but
whenever I hit Map Channel #3, everything snaps into place"

Well if you look at the bake menu image, under "object to bake" its written:
    teapot 01 channel 3
That is why you need to set the channel to 3 on material editor.
However this can be change . On the menu under mapping you can set it to one.

    ah ha!

Thanks cat. I also added a step where I add a background environment colour (usually offwhite or gray) - it makes the lighting more uniform. With more uniform lighting, it makes the various surfaces better lit when its unwrapped.

I'll revise with your explanation and my extra tip.
