Hello everybody!

Sorry for my very bad english!

I decide to reveal my battlestar for this new year!

So i started it 6 months ago, when i passed my exams, i stopped it during the summer holiday and restart it in the beginning of december. I use 3ds max 2008 and mental ray. the polycount is near 620 000 polys.

I haven't chosen the name of my battlestar yet

so stop talking and now..the pictures!

a small turret:

a cannon:

Whoah you mean your PC didn't blow up after modelling that !? That's the best BSG model I have seen since official BSG renders :D I seriously have no words to describe that. It's just ... perfect.

Incredible details. I love how you did the nose, and the ribbing and turret is awesome.

    great work on this battlestar.

Are you going to create some animations? With that level of details you can take very great close-ups!
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
    Thank you all!

I think i will create some animations for my demoreel, after this battlestar, i will model the pegasus, and a cylon basestar, i am on 2 other models actually, the viper mark II and the cylon raider, i think i will made a big animation with all of my bsg models.

here my viper mark II, unfinished, it need to be all retextured:

here a start on my cylon raider:

great meshes. I think all of us want to see more of the Viper. Is it detailed as the Battlestar?
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
the viper is less detailed than the battlestar because i made it last year with my old omputer, a pentium 4 solo, ati 9600 pro 128mb with only 512 mo ddr. I will make a new mesh, with more details and better shaders, textures.

you're really making a great model here great work hope to see more soon
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
That is absolutely fantastic. It scares people new to CG such as myself who are trying to get into modeling lol.

I remember seeing another Battlestar with such detail here on SFM. It was like a multi-million poly beast.

What's your poly count so far?

It's looking spectacular though. Are those windows in the middle section? Do Battlestars have windows?
  • PearsePearse0 Posts: 0Member
They do, although we've only seen through the windows right at the very front in the observation room thingamy.

Wow, this is an amazing model so far. It really does look as detailed as the studio version. Fantastic job!

    great work!
i have a question for you: in the center of the image we see 3 tubes; everyone create an 'S' curve...how did you do that curves? Are 2 cilindres with bend modifier?
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
FANTASTIC!!! Please keep up the great work :D
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
    Thank you all!

For the tubes i use splines with render enable in viewport and renderer. I use a radial thinkness for my splines.
