Looking impressive indeed. I always like to see physical models.

Perhaps you could put a question to rest, as your Defiant looks way more accurate than anything else we've seen. What is the deflector actually made from? I'm virtually certain it is a specific kind of lenticular diffuser used in fluorescent lighting, based on close-up photos from the auction. It's usually assumed to be a grille or mesh screen, even in the concept art and the CGI model, as well as every single mesh I can find.

    Thanks

The deflector is plastic, clear, fluorescent light diffusing panel, not an actual grill material. It's available at any hardware or home improvement store.

I guess the best way for you to get the refraction correct would be to model it

it's a repeating pattern so you should only have to model a tiny portion of it and then duplicate it

She's finally finished. Now I'll do the actual build up with lights etc.

Cool, looks like it is going to become a tough little ship when it all comes together.

    Thanks.

I'm working on the nacelle lighting, it's different from any other trek ship as there's detail inside the nacelle.

    Awesome.

Seeing two studio size models side-by-side like that, it's amazing that they managed to get anything correctly scaled on screen.

I hope those two aren't to scale to each other... I'd hate to think the Defiant is that huge of a ship.
  • TALON_UKTALON_UK2 Posts: 0Member
As pointed out by the post above yours, nope, they're nowhere near the same scale.

Starting on the paint, it was a nightmare figuring out the base color, it's not light grey, but light bluegrey.

Yes it does. I want one! You've always avoided my questions re: cost, Rel...I'd love to know what one of your built models is worth... :)

It depends on the build, and a lot of times I don't really know until it's actually finished, by then I'm usually burned out on it, lol. But about the price of a used car.

    It's ready for decals now.

    Sweet!

BTW: Does a model this size require active cooling when it's lit for the time they'd usually need for filming a shot? I only remember that some models like Blake's Liberator were famous for their temperature control problems, but that thing had a giant light bulb as an integral part of its internal lighting rig..
