Just blocking in the central section atm ... but wanted to post something for the weekend ... Will update these renders later in the week ...

    @ Lord Erisu:

If the Traffic Warden makes another appearance, it will most likely be on the Chapters Firing Range ... A fitting end to one of humanity's less desirable species ...

    @ Quiarcus:

Thanks !!, ... though moving a tad slow atm due to a few things going on with RL ...

    @ alpha_omega:

Cheers alpha ... When I get to textures I will show maps done for it, ... Those previous renders that show textures were done in seconds, just slapping a map straight onto the model, ... You'll see the difference when the model's mapped properly later, ...

    Jas

It's coming along very nicely so far, and just a quick question as well, when you animate the tracks are you going to use the animated spline technique or some other form of animation?

    Eternal3lade

Edit: What renderer/settings are you using and can we get a base idea of how to make such a nice non-clay wip render?

it's great but some of the edges look really too smooth, which make it look like a scale model like the reference you used and not a real life vehicle
  • ArmondikovArmondikov0 Posts: 0Member
Definitely looking sweet. Very smooth, but that's just the style.

Looking very, VERY nice Binkerman (as we expect from you ;) )

So thats what bevels look like....... glad you managed for fit a couple in.

    Keep up the astounding work.

I'm looking forward to some very nice texturing (will be watching very closely for some guidance). Hope you don't mind.

    Bravo!

Better than a lawyer at any rate... defense one anyway.

And the raider, it is looking sweet indeed.

man i need to get back into my modeling, of late i have been working on edge extrusion modeling, it flows so much better.

Nice work so far, hopefully soon i will be that detail oriented in my work :\

Excellent, it's coming along nicely mate!

@ Meph, Armondikov, Lord Erisu, Enigma X & Kadaeux :

    Thanks Guys :thumb:!

    @ eternal3lade:

Yeah, will probably be going with the spline method for the tracks .... I've been using Brazil as my renderer since 2003, ... at that time Mental Ray wasn't part of MAX, otherwise I probably would have just stayed with that, as it does give very good results ... VRay is also very popular, ... think it just comes down to personal Preference ...

I do a very quick setup for my WIP pics, ... using just 3 Omni lights, ... placing them around the Model, ... I use two as fill lights set low, and the Main one (Key Light) that has a higher intensity also casts shadow, ... The shadow is set to Ray Trace ... only for WIP pics, as I like to have fairly crisp renders during the WIP stage, ... but for Final renders / Beauty shots, .. I would use a softer shadow type that gives a more natural result ....

    @ Dr. Jones:

You'll notice on every Land Raider WIP pic this text appears > Based on Forgeworld Miniature & Imperial Armour Book < ..... and since that's the ONLY reference available to build the Land Raider, ... I'll be building it very close to how the Kit appears ... to the point of how the physical model is constructed, so that the edge flow and rounding match the physical model, ...

Anyone building from REFs, for example Studio Models, ... intend to Match that Ref, right down to the amount of edge-rounding it has, ...

Defining 'Realistic' with regards to edge rounding is broad, since I also have Refs of real-world Tanks where parts have edges more rounded than this model .... So I didn't go down that road, ... and will be keeping it faithful to the physical model ....

So you hit the nail on the head, ... i.e making it look like the Reference ..... which is what I hope to do ... ;)

    @ UK-Blade:

Thanks mate !! ... I'm playing catch-up with you guys atm, since most of you have either completed modelling or almost there with your 40K vehicles, and onto textures already, .... I'll get to mine soon, ...

Also just to clear up why I say > based on Forgeworld Miniature < in my WIP pics , ... is because the version I'm doing is featured at Forgeworld and they only credit Games Workshop for its 'design', not the actual production model, which is probably what threw me, so wasn't entirely sure at the time who actually produced it ... But as DCB rightly pointed out, the Kits origin is by Games Workshop, .... so I'll include GW in the text for future pics, ... and when I get around to it, re-post the WIP pics already done with the adjusted text ...

    Thanks Everyone :thumb: !!

It's not a big deal - it's all GW anyway. Forge World is just a brand name to flog the expensive low volume resin stuff. It isn't a separate company or anything. It isn't even in a different building.

The reason I made the distinction earlier was to clarify that the bog standard Land Raider is a mass production injection moulded plastic kit (the same as the Rhino, etc.) that is sold under the main GW banner alongside the miniatures. The Forge World LR kits are just a few resin add-ons like doors and weapons designed to fit the ordinary plastic LR chassis. Same thing goes for their Leman Russ, Rhino, etc. kits. Stuff like the Baneblade and titans are all 100% Forge World made kits.

I beg to differ, the Baneblade and Shadowsword (along with a couple variants) can no longer be in the latter category seeing as they are now mass-produced models.

They make plastic kits of those now? Guess you learn something new every day.

Yes, plastic super tanks have been going for a while. The real new stuff is the plastic flyers!

Apparently, they're going for bigger things as well...

hmmm... me thinks that Jas's Grey Knights need to meet the Stompa after they annihilate the Blood Thirster... :D

I saw a preview somewhere recently where GW is going to release the Valkyrie as a plastic kit... looking forward to that one, as I have been thinking of modeling it!

There is a thread on Warseer that rounds up the IG stuff coming down the pike. The new Valk looks pretty close to the FW version.

Anyway I need to post some C&C for Bink lest I will feel like a reprobate for being totally OT. The Promie looks amazing, the tracks and side armor looks spot on. Are you planning on making it totally stock or perhaps adding some custom bits like headlight guards, antennas, stowage, etc? In either case its coming along handsomely.

If you guys are interested in the Stompa, check out the latest White Dwarf. Got loads of pics and articles, including some nice pics of the individual pieces of the kit (great ref material) plus a big cutaway poster of the stompa.
Also loads of nice shots of the Imp Guard super heavy tanks (Baneblade, Stormblade etc) plus lots of new variants (well at least I've never heard of them!!)
Plus next month there is gonna be an article on painting it..

How about we go down the route that GW have been planning for some time and knock out a hole load of orky "bitz" and release them on common formats? Wheels, plates, gunz, engines and other bits and bobs and then we can just assemble any number of vehicles and orky buildings we like.

I'vea also been pondering a project whereby we make all the Cities of Death bits to make buildings and just release them publically or share with the guys interested in 40k. It'd be like a 40k greeble pack for people to use in padding out scenes that would otherwise take an individual far too much time to do.

What a damn fine idea there Armondikov.

I'd def be up for that, as long as my work is of an acceptable qualilty (I know the bar is pretty darn high on this site :))

I've been looking at modelling some of the architecture for backdrops, makes sense if we could all share.

    Count me in. :thumb:

I would be on board for this as well... great idea, Armondikov! I've been wanting to do some architecture myself, but haven't found the time (yet)!
  • KadaeuxKadaeux0 Posts: 0Member
So lets make it some sort of official "40k Architecture Project" speak to the mods to set us up a "Co-operative Projects" section for this sort of thing and get underway ;)

    @ StarSlayer:

Thanks mate, ... Will be keeping the Land Raiders stock ...

    @ The 40K Mob:

Armondikov's idea is good, but guys can you please take that discussion over to Kadaeux's Thread ...

Binkerman's OT Thread Police are ready to escort you over there, .. Don't be alarmed by the Bolters aimed at your heads,.. It's just standard procedure, ....

    Cheers

Been away from this model for a couple of weeks, ... but did some over the weekend working on the front area, ... The Bolters are just positioned as I've not done the actual Rack for them yet .... Finishing off the exterior first ....

    @ Meph:

I'll let you off just this once, ... but any more bad Elmer Fudd impressions, and i'll shoot you myself :shiner: ....
