Sweet! I like it. Perhaps, it could also be useful for the new carrier in the 3D Wip thread.

That layout makes a lot of sense. For the Akira specifically the wide 'wing' design fits in nicely and it's an efficient layout. The size of the bridge and attached rooms seems to be scaled nicely. However, the layout of the ready room seems to 'bottlenecked'. In my opinion the desk should be moved to the first bend after the door, facing the door. That opens up a lot of space to what would be the left upon entering. Then there is only one spot of narrow pathway instead of several. That desk seems a little wide for my tastes as well.

    Great job still.

    looks nice,

i see you have used my helm from an akira bridge design i did. i basically mashed voyagers helm with the deltaflyers

Layout looks interesting... although perhaps having the Head and Armory be of the same size, and layout might not be the wisest idea. What if someone needed to get to the Armory in a hurry and pick up some weapons, and accidently goes left instead of right, ending up in the head? :P

Judging by the size of the bridge and the individual stations, the briefing room looks really small, especially if it needs to hold at least 8-12 people (department heads, XO, CO, specialists). Need to make room for briefing viewer/viewers as well, possibly a "dedication wall", of starships that came before with the same name, or something.

Overall layout looks ok, but I think you should scale down all the consoles and chairs a little bit because everything looks really crowded.

Yes it was a bit crowded up there but I think I finally got it worked out alittle.

Thanks. As for the Ready Room, I trimmed the desk alittle. I still need a couch in there. Thinking of removing the coffee table.

Yes I did I hope you don't mind to much. When its all done I will attach the appropriate credits.

Well about the armory and head I have now switched the doors to be opposite ends of the hall. About the size of the briefing room would take alot more redesign for that. as well as re adjusting the Readyroom to match. Will see what I can do. I have never been fond of dedication walls. But will see where I could put it. You know you are the only one that has said it looks crowded.

Here is how I see the bridge layout

General Overview: Primary operational control of the Akira Class is provided by the Main Bridge, located at the top of the primary hull. It is located on Deck 01. The Main Bridge directly supervises all primary mission operations (with the exception of the Flight bay and assorted craft) and coordinates all departmental activities.

The Main Bridge is a highly restricted area; only Beta-Two security clearance personnel (Officers with the Rank of Ensign or Higher) and authorized bridge personnel are allowed on the bridge.

The Main Bridge is an ejectable module, allowing for a wider variety in mission parameters.

Layout: The new primary Bridge configuration is a combination of the Intrepid and early Sovereign designs. The central area of the Main Bridge provides seating and information displays for the Captain (14). This chair is located in the middle of the bridge, and is reserved for the highest ranking officer onboard the ship. Often the XO can be found sitting in the command chair during shifts the commanding officer is not active.

Directly fore to Port and Starboard sides are Executive Officer (15) and Operations Officer Consoles (13). Here the Operations Officer and Executive Officer can maintain a high degree of control over the bridge.

Directly fore of the command area is the CONN or Helm Station (16), which faces the main viewer. The CONN is equipped with a console that proceeds around an almost one hundred and eighty degree angle.

At the very front of the bridge chamber is a large view screen. This main viewer performs all the standard duties expected of it. However, the view screen is not always activated like most other Starships. It is a full Holographic display, which can be activated upon request. When the screen is not active, a standard bulkhead is present. This addition was made into the Akira Class, so that Star-Field syndrome among Bridge officers would be stopped. Too many officers became hypnotized during warp.

Directly aft of the command area is the location of the Tactical and Security control station (12). Also located to the aft of the Command Chair and the Tac/Sec Station, against the aft wall of the bridge, is the Engineering Alcove. In the Center of the Alcove is a large Master Display Monitor (11), in the design of the pool table used in main engineering. All relative ship information (such as damage, power distribution, etc.) is displayed on the cutaway image of the Akira Class. This monitor can be used to direct ship operations and can be configured for limited flight control if necessary.

Starting from the Port Side; Left; or the Alcove to the Starboard side; Right; you have the Auxiliary Control counsel (7), which gives access directly to all the ships systems and allows the Bridge Crew to run the ship from this counsel. Next to that you have Engineering II (6), which is fully programmable to run any Secondary Console function, including Sciences, Medical, Operations, Limited Helm control, or Security.

Continuing on you have the Engineering I counsel (5), which has a smaller cutaway diagram of the Akira Class, which displays all engineering-relevant data and shows warp fields and engine output. This console also has priority links to the computers, the WPS (Warp Propulsion System), the IPS (Impulse Propulsion System), navigation, SIF, and IDF. Although usually unattended, the Chief Engineer can bring this console to full enable mode by entering voice codes and undergoing a retinal scan. The last station in the Alcove is the Environmental Console (4), used to monitor and adjust the artificial environment within the ship.

This console, as does every console on the bridge, also has the hand-input sub-console for use in setting the auto-destruct of Akira Class. The auto-destruct sequence follows Standard Starfleet security procedures which can be accessed via any secured Memory Alpha ODN connection.

On the left side of the bridge are three stations as follows from fore to aft, is Communications (1), which is responsible for managing all incoming transmissions. Starships of the mid to late 24th century did not have a bridge Communications Officer. Onboard other starships the Tactical Officer doubled as Communications Officer, as did occasionally the Operations Officer. However it was decided that with the fighter complement of the Akira that there may be too many signals for the Tactical Officer or Operations Officer to handle when the ship went into combat.

Then thereA’s Mission Ops (2), which stores, monitors, and controls all information relative to the Current Mission of the vessel. The next console is Marine Ops (3), which monitors and lists the progress of Marine missions currently being undertaken.

On the Right side of the Bridge is another set of three stations from aft to fore, first is the Science I console (8), which can be used by any personnel. Science I has access to all science, navigational, sensor, and communications systems. Directly next to this console is the Fighter Ops (9), which monitors and lists the progress of Fighter missions currently being undertaken and connects the Bridge directly with the TIC (Tactical Information Center).

Next to this is the Flight Deck Ops console (10), which allows the Bridge crew to monitor the Shuttles and Fighters that are on the Flight Deck of the ship before, during and after launch.

There are two turbolifts that lead directly onto the bridge that can handle normal transit around the Akira Class. There is also an emergency ladder that connects the bridge to Deck Two. Other connected rooms to the Main Bridge include the Captain's Ready Room, Briefing Room, and two side rooms. One with a Bathroom facilities for any Bridge crew on duty and an armory that stores Phasers encase of a ship boarding.

Like with other ship classes, there are some variants to the Bridge module, but follow a similar layout.

There are no escape pods connected to the bridge. Pods are located on all decks below Deck three. Two pods are reserved for the top four officers in the chain of command on the Akira Class, because they are the last four to leave the ship. These are located on Deck two. As the number of experienced Captains dwindles in Starfleet, the notion of a Captain going down with his ship has been abolished. If the ship is abandoned, the top four officers in the chain of command will wait until everyone else is off the ship, opt to arm the auto-Destruct (not always necessary, but there if needed), and then leave in the two escape pods.

great bridge design. you're thinking well through all possible operations needed on a starfleet vessel bridge, and especially on a akira-class vessel. can't wait to see the bridge in 3d.

yep, you've got it worked out. Nicely to add! :thumb:

Don't know if this will ever go into 3d as I am not that talented. If someone wants a crack at it though go ahead.

Ok since some people said that briefing room and ready room looked crowded I added to them some. Here is the floor layout. I will add all the furniture later and post it.

I also added the description and the last four designs to the first post. Just so you could see the evolution of the design.

Well as promised here is the bridge with everything positioned. I think this is pretty finished but Comments are welcome.

    looks nice.

    The CONN-station looks strange.

I somehow have the feeling that the person there will not likely be able to reach the buttons at the very end. Bow the wings more toward the seat..
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
You know I never pictured controls on the wings. I only imagined them in the middle. Now that you mentioned it though I may do it.

What program did you do this in? It looks really good and I'd like to design a bridge layout for a starship that traq and myself are working on.

    Looking good! :thumb:

Trooper I did this in paint, and Paint.net. It was initially done in paint while sitting at work. Then I brought it home and put it into paint.net and stripped it into layers so I could toggle stuff on and off and work with things.
  • trooper_211trooper_2110 Posts: 0Member
    Ok, cool.

I actually just started one in MS Paint. So far I've only got the basic shape done but I hope to have alot more done by tomorrow.

    Thanks. :)

Real nice layout, I'd like to 'borrow it' for my Akira Class ship, Archangel :)
Only thing I'd add would be giving Security/Tactical a seat :)
  • [Deleted User][Deleted User]2 Posts: 3Member
Thats great. I would love to see someone else use the layout. The only reason the don't have a seat in my layout is I thought it would crowd the walk way.

Well I know this is a necropost, but I am going to resurrect this thread. I have been going over my old designs and was thinking that i could do better. Then I started to think about the Galaxy bridge and did a quick search on the web and found different designs for the Galaxy bridge. Some things I like from my old design an some things i liked from the other bridges. So with out further ado here is my new Akira Bridge.

    It's your thread so it's not a necropost :)

Quite a change from the older version, I think I preferred it with the more up to date consoles etc, I thought the Sovereign and Akira were designed in the same time frame?

I'm having trouble telling what's going on behind the wishbone... is that long stripe meant to be a transparent master display like the Enterprise-D of the future had?

I have to say I like the fact that the captain has an eyeline to the two forefront side consoles, it reminds me of Spock and Uhura in a sense, where Kirk could turn slightly and see them directly, I imagine that's where those key officers would be, and they would also have a direct view of the main viewer.

And what's that little square room on the side of the bridge? (that's where you go if you're naughty!)

Actually it was designed according to the creator sometime after the Galaxy but before Sovereign.

Well I always thought that the Akira should have some sort of Tactical Display to keep track of its fighters. That's what that straight line is. The MSD is actually on the wall in the back of the alcove.

Well yep just like on the Enterprise-D that is Con and Ops.

Well that I am still working on as that is suppose to be the turbolift to the battle bridge, though I have never thought there was a battle bridge aboard the Akira as it can't separate.

Here is a new pic with some labeling and that box turbolift replaced with a real turbolift.

I was actually referring to Science I and Comm III, not con and ops, but cool.

I like the fact you've separated the internal ship controls from the external ship controls, ie if they're in battle everyone's up front but if there's danger INSIDE the ship (as there usually is in Trek) everyone can huddle around the back of the bridge to confer.

I'm presuming the tactical situation board has some holographic capabilities?

Yep your actually right as well! You just made me notice that I put the Comm stations backwards.

Thanks!! I always liked that idea on the Enterprise NX-01 and thought that would be a good one for a carrier style ship.

Well yes it does kinda. I picture it like those clear glass walls that they use to track targets on in modern warships where some guy marks things with a grease pencil and updates it constantly. Though in my interpretation the markings are as real time as can be and are displayed in a holographic field when it is on and when its off its just a empty ring. This would be a work station for any type of Stratigic Operations Officer that may be aboard as well as the Flight Ops for fighters as they could tell the situation around the ship.
  • BlueNeumannBlueNeumann629 Posts: 1,285Member
I was kind of picturing it being like the Minority Report computer mixed with the glass screens from the new Trek movie, where you can throw graphics on there, manipulate them with your hands.
