I really like it and the reactor is a nice touch, it looks like a Battlestar got busy with Serenity and had a baby:lol:

Great work this ship is really starting to come together now, those guns are really cool.

    here's some missiles :D
    or the launchers anyway . . .
    10 banks of 6 tubes in pairs of 2 . . . I think . . . a decent amount nonetheless
can't really see them in the first pic, but they're angled up just a bit

    *pokes head in, hears crickets*

yeah I'll have a closeup of the missile launchers sometime soon

This is a very sweet design... I love the lines of this ship. It would fit very well into the canon BSG universe.

Hey...I like that. Reminds me of a Kara class launcher setup ( I think thats how those ships were designated in NATO).

Your ships starts to look like tommorows guided missile destroyer...

Nice Backstept (but I still prefer the Cygnus :D ), and you know what I'm going to ask next......

can I attempt a low poly version of this ship??

yeah I guess, but don't expect me to be too helpful with references and whatnot since it's still in progress

Hmm...Those side cuts (ang gribs inside) look nice, but not particularly functional...
Doesnt fit in with the rest of the ship IMO.

    just my 2 cents

    can you be more specific?
I'm not sure what you mean

Thanks muchly backstept. I know its still WIP, but I'd like to give it a try anyway. The current set of reference pics should be ideal.

Backstep are those rapid fire batteries?

I would have to say the ones he was refering to were these
    http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/attachments/3d-wips/44590d1197547025-colonial-guardian-guardian_029.jpg

With the large Doors in the front and turrets and missile tubes near by it would seem that this is more of a storage area for armaments and supplies. Also by what we have seen from the BSG Razor Movie this is an area where supplies from stations are transferred to ships. So it makes you wonder what the three cylinders are for, since you have not modelled the back side of the protrution yet in any pics i have seen. Which is probably why it seems like a unnecessary detail at this point.

Looks cool but until you show what is going on behind them it seems likily that they would have no use for now.

would 'because it looks cool' be a good enough explanation?

here's a material test on an earlier build
it was basically to see how the specular highlights looked on the engine area, and I like how it looks

I can't speak for the other guys, but I'm just a hobbyist, so I doubt any FX house would hire me :D

and I hope you meant 'hats' :shiner:

That is a cool ship! I'm looking forward to seing how it developes.

Hobbyist, you may be backstept, but thats how these companies get their talent much of the time.
  • backsteptbackstept2061 Posts: 923Member
I think in order to even be considered, I'd have to go to school, because right now I have no formal training, or informal for that matter, in any of the main CG apps that fx houses use . . .
plus I'm a slow modeler and easily distracted :shiner:
so I'm happy just dabbling around in my spare time

I appreciate the compliments, guys. :D
