I was sick a few days ago, and in my semi-delerious state, I decided to play with the textures for Coxxon's BSG models.
I discovered that within the JPEGs the vectors paths are left intact, so I made use of them.
My basic thinking for the Galactica and the Pegasus is this: The older mk II vipers had a white and red theme, while the older galactica had a gunblue thing going. the newer Mark VII vipers had the gunblue thing goin, while the newer Pegasus had a white and red theme. I thought this a little flip-flopped, so I reversed it. ^_^
The other thing that could be done is this:
Reverse the scheme from the other direction. Just for kicks.

I discovered the same thing doing work for the BSG HW2 team, but I only used it for better glow and spec maps.
If you can snag Coxxon's permission, I'd love to see these retextures released. Perhaps new schemes for the Civvy liners besides just the little blimps, like the Cloud 9 and Spacepark, if they're still intact?
It can be tricky given the psychotic amount of overlaid maps on some models, but AO bakes can do some nice things for the models too.

what did looks cool.
So here's to saying goodbye to that.
I know that's a starwars ship in there, but I couldn't resist. It looks good in BSG colors.
Also, there is a VTOL craft. That's for marine support and strike in atmosphere. Inspired by the thread in the head-banner. I will probably end up making a Two-Prop version like in his thread, lol.
Enjoy.
There's a Jedi fighter that has a red-white colour scheme, but I have no images here.
I know, Aresius, lol.
I still think it looks good in BSG colors, good enough to swallow it as BSG.
In other news - I've redone the Basestars. I've tried to give them a more menacing look. The series textures looked benign - which contrasts well with their evil intent, but I wanted to see what would happen if did away with that contrast.
Another helichopper for the Colonial Marines.
Texturing begins tomorrow, it may have to wait till I get home from work.
Thanks to Howard Day for the concept.
You said in your first post that "within the JPEGs the vectors paths are left intact". Could you go into some more detail about that? I've opened the files up in Irfanview, GIMP, and probably a couple other programs, but I'm not seeing what you're talking about.
If you open up some of the textures in photoshop and go to your Paths palette you should see what i mean. I use Photoshop CS2, I don't know if that makes a difference. Also, not of them have the paths. The basestar textures do, as do the Battlestars and the Vipers. The Defender, and Celestra do not, for example.
"Viper MK2" colors with marine green.
Anyhoe,
Thanks...

My textures are far from great, I would say I am moderately skilled. I need to get better at my weathering techniques (the heli's dont have weathering yet) and I feel like there are a lot of empty spaces in my textures.
It looks like you have a pretty solid start. It looks like the "snout" could stand to be narrowed and possible extended.
When I model or texture, I try to keep Neil Blevins' "rule" of composition in my head.
That helped me a great deal when I work on things. I know a lot of people may be bothered by the "formulaic" nature of that type of thinking, but those of us blessed with technical thinking can benefit from it.

In other news. I think thats most of the small-craft. I would love for coxxon to model out a Blackbird, but I shall not hold my breath
As for the paths, I'm still not seeing them. Maybe someone can provide a SVG file or something with them? GIMP can open Photoshop files too, but I'm not sure how much info will convert.
You've got a nice looking air wing going there! :thumb:
I don't know what it would take to see the paths in the JPEG format, i just know that I do.
Let me do some research.
BTW: has anyone heard if Coxxon will be doing a Valkyrie or Blackbird?
